Welcome to our site!
We initially started this project by wanting to take an introspective look at what goes into creating a local farmer's market. We set up an interview with the Kirby family, who have owned and ran a feed supply store in Medford, New Jersey for over 15o years. We went into this interview with questions geared towards what it takes to open a farmers market, as well as their reasons for wanting to do so. From the answers we received from these questions we realized that the reasons to buy local would yield better research and overall footage then we could have ever imagined by strictly focusing on the farmers market process. We have since changed our scope to be the reasons why people buy local, and the reasons we feel that you should buy local, when possible, over chain stores and imported foods.
We have since changed our main research question to Why buy local?
We were extremely inspired by the passion of the Kirby's and the specific reasons they expressed to us for buying and eating local and sustainable. The purpose of this project is to advocate buying local foods and how it affects not only the consumer but the community overall. We also advocate for consumers to know where their food comes from. We are definitely biased and feel that everyone who has the opportunity should eat local. Hopefully you will feel the same way after looking at all our research and footage.
